Thank you all who help! Read how our project Life for Bečva was created and how the money from the sale of Bečva ham helps.
In September 2020, a tragic malfunction resulted in toxic substances entering the Bečva River. Over 40 tonnes of fish died along 40 kilometres of the river. The event attracted a great deal of national media interest, but it was the inhabitants of the villages near the Bečva River who were most affected. The Bečva is linked to the history and culture of the Wallachia region, there are many picturesque natural sceneries in its vicinity and the locals are proud of this river.
The poisoning of the Bečva River was an event with which the inhabitants of the region are still struggling to come to terms. That is why they have been working to restore the Bečva to its original state since the beginning.
We have always prided ourselves on our strong relationship with the region and since we are based in Hustopeče nad Bečvou we decided to join hands and do something for the Bečva. Most of our employees come from Hustopeče n. B. where the river flows and its future is not alien to us. That is why we decided to launch a new product whose sales will help the revitalization of the river.
On March 1, we launched a new product - Bečva ham. The new project Life for Bečva is associated with it.
With this project, we are following up on our successful venture in 2014, when we introduced a new product, Ham Libušín, to our customers. Just like 10 years ago in the case of Libušín, we want to donate part of the proceeds from the sale of the product to a good cause. Our customers also have the opportunity to contribute to the revitalization of the river and its immediate surroundings.
For every kilogram of Ham Bečva sold, we will donate CZK 1 to organisations and fishing associations that care for the Bečva. These organisations are working to ensure that the Bečva River is once again the clean, life-giving stream it was before September 2020. The purpose is to mitigate the effects of the accident and return fish and other animals and plants to the river. The project does not neglect the education and training of young people in this field.
The main message of the Life for the Bečva project is that we must value our natural resources. Nature is the most precious thing we have. Let us respect it and preserve its purity and beauty so that future generations can enjoy it too.
What is Ham Bečva itself like?
Bečva is the highest quality ham with a meat content of up to 92%. The delicate taste of the ham guarantees a gourmet experience, whether you eat it on its own or on fresh bread with butter. The ham is sliced thinly and its shape resembles ripples on a river. The ham can be found in a sliced 100g version or whole in Czech supermarkets and chains.
As of 18 April 2024, the Life for the Bečva project has already raised CZK 59,337, which will help bring life back to the Bečva River.
80,000 CZK has been exceeded as of May 14th and we are eagerly awaiting the next milestone - 100,000 CZK, which we will gradually donate to local organisations and fishermen for the restoration of the damaged Bečva River.
Ham Bečva has won the BEST NEW product in the prestigious 2024 CONSUMER'S CHOICE competition in the sausage category. We received the award on 13 June at the award ceremony at the O2 universum in Prague. This unforgettable evening was a great experience for us and confirmed that our work and efforts are perceived and appreciated not only by our consumers but also by the professional public.
